Tap on a hard floor
and the body pays.

A tap board on a foam mat looks portable, but the foam flattens and the impact still lands on feet, ankles, shins, knees and hips. And the floor underneath wears, because hard shoes mark whatever they meet. A practice surface is not a prop. It is the equipment that protects the dancer and the room at the same time.

The Portable Tap Floor is our own-brand answer: a fully sprung step built on the same sprung floor system we lay in studios, sized so one person can carry it. It is 1020 x 800 x 50 mm and 12.5 kg, with real force reduction underfoot - not a board on a mat. It protects the floor beneath it from tap and flamenco wear, stacks and stores, and is made in Australia and supplied Australia wide. It is one part of the full Dance & Studio Equipment range. Studios that know it as the Show Works tap step will find it on the Show Works tap step page, now made by Theatre Safe Australia.

What makes it work

A sprung floor,
sized to carry.

The Portable Tap Floor is not a board on a mat. It is the same sprung construction we lay in studios, shrunk to a single step you can pick up. Here is what that buys you.

The spec, defined once: a fully sprung portable tap surface, 1020 x 800 x 50 mm and 12.5 kg. Built on our own sprung floor system, made in Australia and supplied Australia wide. Stacks and stores, with class-set discounts on orders of ten or more.

Real spring · Force reduction

It actually springs.

A tap board on a foam mat flattens and gives nothing back. This is the same sprung construction we build studio floors on, so the step returns energy through every beat and takes the load off feet, ankles, shins, knees and hips. Real force reduction, not a cushioned offcut.

Portable · One person, one step

Pick it up and go.

At 1020 x 800 x 50 mm and 12.5 kg, one dancer can carry it, lay it down and pack it away. The steps stack and store, so a teacher can give every dancer a sprung surface for class and clear the room afterwards. Practice happens wherever you are.

Floor protection · Shields what is underneath

It saves the floor too.

Hard shoes mark whatever they meet. Lay the step on a timber stage, a studio vinyl or a hall floor and it takes the impact and scuffing of tap and flamenco work. When the class is done, lift it - the surface underneath is untouched.
