A fly system inspection goes the full height of the tower - from the rope lock you reach from the floor to the head and loft sheaves you do not. Here are the four component groups we check on every line set, against published discard criteria.

A fly system inspection is a scoped examination of your counterweight flying system - battens, cradles and guides, hauling and loft wires and their terminations, head and loft sheaves, the return sheave, and rope locks - assessed against discard criteria, with every defect graded on priority and given a rectification timeframe. It is the depth a busy fly tower needs between whole-of-venue Health Checks, carried out in-house by TSA's Competent Inspection Officers.

Each component gets a compliance result against published discard criteria, and every defect is graded on priority with a recommended action and timeframe - from routine through to remove-from-service. The result is a graded record of the whole flying system, line by line. For the whole-of-venue version, it sits inside the Venue Systems Health Check.

Counterweight line set, drawn in section through the fly tower A flat blueprint section through one counterweight line set. At stage level the batten hangs on trim chains (1). Lift lines, also called loft wires, rise from the batten (2) to the loft blocks mounted on the gridiron (3), then run across the loft and gather into the multi-groove head block at the top of the fly tower (4). From the head block the lift lines drop to the counterweight arbor, which rides between its guide rails and carries the counterweight bricks (5). The operating line loops from the top of the arbor, over the head block, down past the loading gallery and the fly floor to the return sheave at deck level, and back up to the bottom of the arbor. The rope lock, clamped on the operating line at the fly floor and highlighted in orange, is the focal inspection point (6). The rope lock is the focal check. It is the part that holds a set where you leave it, the one an operator touches most, and the one that fails quietly. Every inspection point is graded against discard criteria, with a recommended action and timeframe.

We work the line set from the rope lock to the loft. Every component is assessed against its discard criteria, every defect is graded on priority, and each finding carries a recommended action with a rectification timeframe.
